the best way to REALLY get connected at GC is in a Kadre. (sounds like "kaw-dray")
basically a kadre is just a group of people like you that want to get to know each other and God better.
our kadres meet at a few different times through the week in various places around town. check out the images at the top of the page to find one that works for you.
if you see one that you'd like to check out, feel free to call the leaders or email us at theoffice@genchurch.org.
if you check one out, here's what you can expect:
1) food - if there's no food let us know because there had better be - it just makes everything a bit better right?
2) laid-back atmosphere - no one's going to be grilling you on how many Bible verses you can quote or how many dates you've had recently. we make it a priority to take some time and just enjoy hanging out. in addition to the regular study you might find yourself shooting hoops, going shopping, chilling at the park or playing video games.
3) Biblical discussion - we really believe the Bible is God's Word - and God has great things to say about our lives, our hearts, our past and our future. We will study the Bible together - and we will definitely change as a result.
if you're really going to get involved, you should know our intention for kadres. it really stems from the dictionary's definition:
kadre n.
a tightly-knit group of zealots that are active in advancing the causes of a larger revolutionary party.
let's break it down a bit:
"tightly-knit" - this is really about relationship. nobody's going to be blubbering about childhood wounds (or expect you to be) or anything but you will have a chance to begin to build friendships in a kadre. some will grow outside the group and others will just be generally based around the group meeting. but it is about relationship. we have the awesome opportunity to not live life all alone. you can pursue that opportunity in a kadre.
"group of zealots" - talking about, learning about and focusing on God will make you more passionate about Him. it's that simple. we're not talking about mingling our blood or anything weird like that. we're talking about understanding and getting more excited about the things God does, who He is, and what He's done (and is doing) in our lives. anything you give a lot of attention toward is going to own a piece of your heart (I used to like country music!). in our kadres, we want that to be God.
"that are active" - we don't wanna just sit around and talk about God. we want to DO what He's called us to do. Jesus did great things and has sent us into the world to do the same (John 20:21). we will be serving, giving, going on a regular basis. it's not like you're gonna have to quit school to participate or anything but what's cool is that you are gonna be able to see this world change as a result of what you and your kadre are gonna do together.
"a larger revolutionary party" - okay, put down the torch and pitchfork. when we say "revolutionary" that's not what we have in mind! this is: changing our culture - not following it. Jesus shaped His world - with words, with generosity, with love. He thought about others when they thought only of themselves. there will be things you learn in your kadre (and in other parts of GC for that matter) that really should make you uncomfortable. that's what happens when we go against the grain of our own ways. you'll read in the Bible, hear in a sermon, and study in a kadre things that are contrary to our culture. that's revolutionary. let's change things.
DEEPER. STRONGER. FURTHER.
